Named for Reverend and Violet Althouse, the last residents of the property, it is located largely on Upper Pottsgrove Open Space land at 1794 Gilbertsville Road. The Arboretum serves as an outdoor education center and community space. Walking trail within the arboretum link with those in Sussell Park and Sprogels Run to form several miles of outdoor enjoyment.
Within 30 minutes of Pottstown, Chanticleer is one of the great gardens of the region. Once the Rosengarten home, today's Chanticleer is a colorful, contemporary garden within an historic setting.
State park located a short, beautiful drive from Pottstown with hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, boating, kayak and paddle board rentals.
Incredibly designed and extensive gardens originally owned by Pierre Du Pont that range for acres both indoors and out. Don’t miss the newly renovated Italian Gardens. Grab lunch in nearby Kennett Square while you’re there.
Delicious bakery and café located in the quaint and miniscule village in the hills of Chester County, minutes away from Downtown Pottstown. The bakery is just one of several small businesses on the tiny historic main street. There is a creamery, antique stores, and even a glass blower. Have lunch and take the unique hiking loop through the graffiti-covered rocks from the quarry.
A nearly 80-mile trail extending from Philadelphia into Schuylkill County, with a small break between Parker Ford and Pottstown (that stretch is being worked on). Three Daughters Inn sits right at the mid-point of the trail, so is a great place to stay when biking the whole thing. Or start in Reading or Philly, bike half-way, stay with us, and turn around and go back.
Rent Kayaks and enjoy the Schuylkill River this weekend right from Pottstown’s own Riverfront Park. Or rent bicycles and enjoy a ride into Reading or down to Philadelphia, if you’re feeling ambitious!
